Glen Buck Hillsborough Memorial Cross
The last 96 Hilsborough coins made this year are being reserved and put to one side for a special occasion.
A simple wooden crucifix is to be designed and made on Merseyside within the next few months. Its dimensions will be 12 feet by 7 feet by 9 inches thick. The last remaining 96 coins will be copper finished and embedded into the cross at different angles and positions. In all over 10 kilos of coins will be attached to this crucifix. All set into the wood by hand.
We are hoping this will eventually end up in Bill Shankly’s home village of Glen Buck, Scotland where at present a memorial has been erected for his achievements. The symbol of the cross will now incorporate both the founding father of Liverpool football club and those who perished and lost their souls in the Hilsborough tragedy.

We are going to approach Scottish Coal who owns the village of Glen Buck and the East Ayreshire council for their permission to erect the cross.
We are hoping in March or April of 2011 to temporarily display it in Stanley Park for all of the Liverpool fans to see. Then transport it up to GlenBuck, for its final resting place.
We are asking for Liverpool fans to purchase the last 96 coins and donate them for the cross. On the base of the cross, the name of each person who donates a coin will be remembered for their generosity. The cost of each coin is a small sum of £18. All the work on this project is being done by local artists. We are also looking for a number of Merseyside based carpenters to embed the coins into the crucifix.
Furthermore, if you donate a coin, or make a donation of just £5, we will send you a free magnificent DVD (UK residents only) - Bill Shankly: The Legend, The Genius, The Man!
